Groves is a city in Jefferson County with 17,335 people at the 2020 census. It lies about 16 miles southeast of downtown Beaumont, with Port Arthur bordering it on three sides and state highways 73, 87 and 347 passing through or nearby.

From pecan orchard to Groves

In 1886 Sam Courville moved his family to 640 acres here from a Sabine Lake settlement. In 1919 Wiley Choate of the Griffing Brothers Nursery supervised the planting of several thousand pecan trees on a 385-acre tract. Two years later the land became a residential subdivision called "Pecan Grove", and the name was later shortened to Groves. Many yards still have big trees, and pecan roots spread wide in search of water. Old sewer joints are an easy target. If you have mature trees near the line and drains that slow every year or two, roots are a likely cause and a plumber can confirm it with a camera.
